Blackhead decoy by R. Madison Mitchell of Havre de Grace, Maryland. (1901-1993). Signed and dated 1940. Clean, dry all original paint. Minor rubs and some shot from gunning use. Retains staple/ring but the weight has been removed.

R. Madison Mitchell was undoubtedly the most prolific carver on the Susquehanna Flats and his decoys will always be admired for their classic simplistic design, clean lines, and ability to attract waterfowl and collectors alike.
