Redhead decoys by Charlie "Speed" Joiner (1921-2015), Chestertown, MD. Circa 1950. Beautiful early paint with no neck cracks which is rare for this vintage. This pair is exceptional and sure to please. Great early decoys for the serious Joiner collector.
Charlie “Speed” Joiner was a renowned decoy carver from Chestertown, Maryland, celebrated for his craftsmanship and significant contributions to the Chesapeake Bay waterfowling tradition.
Joiner studied under Madison Mitchell, a prominent carver from Havre de Grace, Maryland, and was influenced by the Ward brothers of Crisfield, Maryland. This blend of mentorship and observation helped him develop a distinctive style that combined elements from both traditions with his eye for painting.
