Fullsize decorative Common Goldeneye drake decoy by David “Eddie” Carroll (1965 - ) of Church Hill, Maryland.  Signed and dated 2006. This decoy was made for the R. Madison Mitchell Endowment Trust on March 10, 2006. Number 16 of 25 made. Clean, dry all original paint. Great decoy for the Eastern Shore collector.

David “Eddie” Carroll is a contemporary Chesapeake Bay carver associated with Chestertown and nearby Church Hill on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

Carroll says he learned carving and painting techniques from Charlie “Speed” Joiner after forging a friendship with Joiner in the mid 1980s. Its often said that Carroll was among Joiner’s best students.

Carroll produces finely modeled working decoys and decorative miniatures in Chesapeake Bay styles — examples include many of the diver and puddler species common to North America. Collectors note realistic carvings and well-executed paint details that echo the local gunning tradition while fitting contemporary collector tastes.
