Beautiful greenwing teal  decoys by Paul Gibson (1902 - 1984) of Havre de Grace, Maryland. Signed and dated 1972. Strong, dry and clean all original paint with original rigging intact. This pair has great patina. Drake does have a cracked neck but head is solid. Classic pair of decoys for the upper bay collector.

Gibson began carving decoys in 1915, initially crafting them by hand in a shop behind his house. His early work was entirely hand-carved until he acquired a lathe from fellow carver R. Madison Mitchell. Known for his sturdy decoys, Gibson favored chunky features and white pine heads. While he carved in the Havre de Grace style, he distinguished his work by making the bodies and tails of his birds thicker and the necks shorter. His decoys were  often signed with "Paul Gibson Havre de Grace MD."
